Comfortable shoes for work while pregnant

Postby Guest on Sat Aug 09, 2008 8:47 am

I am in my second trimester, I work in a office with a strict dress code. My problem is that all of my dress shoes kill my feet after a few hours, even the low or flat heels. I often slip off my shoes at my desk for relief from the pain but when I need to put them back on my feet hurt even more due to the swelling, I am not permitted to wear open toe or heel shoes so slip on mules are not an option.
Any advice or recommendations will be appreciated.

Be sure there is a little extra room to allow for swelling, and if you need slip them off at your desk when your feet are out of site then do it.

Hi Barb,

Just wondering how you are managing shoe wise?

What type of shoes are you able to wear in work.

I think it affects differnt people in different ways, - I was pregnant about 18 months ago and was lucky as my boss did'nt mind me going barefoot in the office!!

Thank you for asking, I bought a pair of pumps one size bigger then I normally wear, this helps somewhat. I still spend some time when stting at my desk shoeless, nobody has complained.
I will be starting a short term project next week, so I will be working out of a meeting room and will be able to dress more casual for a few week. I plan on wearing lose fitting clothing and possibly flip flops so I can slip them off while working, but will be able to slip into them easily when I need to.

Best thing is going barefoot to be honest.

I saw a woman today who was pregnant, and she was walking around the town centre in a dress and barefeet. The soles of her feet were balck, and she did'nt have any shoes with her.

Why not just dump your shoes and go barefoot?

Get a more rounded toe box, with fairly chunky heels, and a 1/2" to 3/4" platform (which may be hidden on some of the more fashionable models being sold today). The platform makes an unbelievable difference in the comfort level, because it gives the shoe manufacturer more room for padding, and it isolates your feet from the irregularities of the floor/ground/street. Also highly recommend the ultra thin version of Spenco brand insoles. They use a high pressure nitrogen compressed foam rubber that I have been using for about 30 years (recommended years ago by a Podiatrist I had consulted about extreme pain resulting from running in Army ROTC class). Spenco insoles NEVER develop flat spots, even after constant wear for 1-2 years. The insole cloth wears out before the insole does. The ultra thin model was developed specifically for women's high heel pumps.

I wore Dr. Scholl's (not the cutest things, but they felt awesome) shoes with additional padded inserts.

I had to stand on my feet for 4-5 hours at a time, and those shoes felt great.

I am not sure what shoes exactly you ARE allowed to wear... Bummer about the strict code... you think they would have consideration for you.

my best tip would be to bring 3 different pair to change up. merrill puma even crox make dressed-up looking comfortable shoes now.

wishing you could just wear your ugg mocs ha!

peace
