John Cleese claims the American women he has fallen for have caused nothing but problems for him.
The comedy actor, who has been married to three US beauties, says although they looked great they had emotional problems.
He revealed: "I've always been attracted to American women, from the first moment I visited New York in 1964. I was instantly attracted by their energy and openness.
"But that energy is sometimes fuelled by self-doubt and a need to prove things. So that has led to problems for me."
Meanwhile, Cleese has blamed his classic comedy series 'Fawlty Towers' on the breakdown of his marriage.
Cleese says the sitcom he co-wrote with then-wife, Connie Booth - who played waitress Polly in the show - put a terrible strain on their marriage and she moved out of their home after the first series.
The actor told Britain's Daily Mail Weekend magazine: "I had a perfectionist streak and got terribly wound up over things.
"Writing 'Fawlty Towers' meant I became very difficult to live with and the stresses it caused contributed to our break up.
"The whole business was very painful and it was all going on behind the scenes."
