Guy Ritchie planned to Divorce Madonna Over the Summer (08) - but was ordered not to disrupt the singer's Sticky & Sweet tour plans, according to reports.
The former couple is currently in the middle of court proceedings, after announcing plans to separate last month (Oct08).
The pair had been under intense media scrutiny since the summer (08) amid rumours she indulged in an affair with New York baseball star Alex Rodriguez.
Ritchie wanted to divorce the singer at the time - but was told to postpone the announcement until the Material Girl wrapped up her Sticky & Sweet tour in December (08), according to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper.
In the end, the charade got too much anyway and Guy said it all had to end.
A source says, "The flurry of stories over the summer were acutely embarrassing for Guy.
"He wanted to speak up and say that he and Madge were no longer together. But he was told, in no uncertain terms, that he had to wait until Madonna's tour was finished.
"In the end, the charade got too much anyway and Guy said it all had to end."
