Snow Patrol have written a "happy" album.
Frontman Gary Lightbody said he wanted 'A Hundred Million Suns' to be a more positive record than the band's last two efforts, 2003's 'Final Straw' and 2006's 'Eyes Open', both of which were written about the singer's relationships ending.
He told MTV: "It's different from the other records in that it's based around a relationship that's working rather than one that's falling apart.
"I wanted to make a record about love that was much more real than just saying, 'I'm happy.' I wanted to make a record that reflected on world situations within the context of seeing it through someone you love's eyes, and what that person means to you, despite how confused or frightened you may be. There's darkness in there, of course, but there's real, proper, functioning love too."
Despite admitting he has again been writing about a break-up, the 'Chocolate' singer insists he has focussed on the positive aspects this time around.
He added: "I wanted to celebrate something extraordinary that happened in my life, and I didn't want to mope about the end of it.
"I wanted to remember the great bits of it, and I wanted to share them with everybody, because they were just an amazing part of my life, and I didn't see a point in dwelling on what brought it to an end. So on this record, I'm not talking about my sadness - I'm talking about my happiness."
