Tom Cruise has hit back at criticism of his forthcoming movie 'Valkyrie'.
The 'Mission Impossible' star says he is stunned by the negativity surrounding the World War II thriller.
He is quoted by the San Francisco Chronicle as saying: "The criticism just doesn't make sense to me. The moment I read the screenplay I knew it was an important story, and as it's a true tale of heroic resistance to one of the great villains of history. I can't imagine that people won't want to see it."
The movie, which focuses on a plot by insurgent German soldiers to assassinate Adolf Hitler, has suffered a series of setbacks, including repeated changes of release date and extras - who have now filed a lawsuit - being injured on set.
A trailer for the movie showing Tom playing the role of a German officer with an American accent has also been the subject of ridicule by critics.
'Valkyrie' is currently set for a December release date.
