Spain's King Juan Carlos held a special reception for the players of his country's victorious Euro 2008 squad on Tuesday (01.07.08).

The monarch and wife Queen Sofia welcomed the soccer stars to Madrid's Royal Residential Zarzuela Palace, where Carlos hugged the 23-man squad and joked with them about the victory.

Crown Prince Felipe and wife Crown Princess Letizia and Princess Elena were also there, to congratulate the team personally for bringing home Spain's first major soccer trophy for 44 years.

The royal family also enjoyed lifting the coveted Euro 2008 trophy.

We have suffered, but the final was worth it. We have been waiting for such happiness for some time. It all worked out well and it was very exciting.

On Sunday (29.07.08), Carlos and Sofia were among the special guests at the stadium in Vienna, Austria, as they watched their national side beat Germany 1-0 in the final.

Carlos, who was seen jumping in the air after Fernando Torres scored the winning goal, said: "We have suffered, but the final was worth it. We have been waiting for such happiness for some time. It all worked out well and it was very exciting.

"This is a moment for all of us Spaniards to rejoice because this is a triumph for all."
