Prince Frederik's Bulgaria visit

Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik and Princess Mary met Bulgarian President Georgi Purvanov yesterday (16.09.09).

The pair discussed relations between the two countries in terms of culture, education, tourism and investments during the meeting in the country's capital Sofia.

They agreed there are other aspects of their relationship with must be addressed in order to strengthen their ties, with Frederik reportedly asking the president to attend a meeting about reducing noxious dioxide emissions in Copenhagen in the autumn of next year.

The royals - who are due to stay in the country until tomorrow (17.09.08) - went on to greet Bulgarian's Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev and Speaker of the Bulgarian Parliament Georgi Pirinski.

Princess Mary had a meeting with the president's wife, Zorka Purvanova.

The royal couple also visited Sofia's St Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, and plan to see the National Museum of History, Plovdiv - the country's second largest city - and Troyan Monastery.

The prince and princess will not be releasing a statement about the meeting.
