Britain's Prince Philip honoured the Archbishop of York on Monday (23.06.08) for his charity jump.
The Duke of Edinburgh, who was dressed in university robes, visited the prestigious Cambridge University to take part in the annual honorary doctorate ceremony.
The Archbishop of York, the Most Reverend and Right Honourable Dr. John Sentamu - who raised £75,000 for the British Armed Forces after jumping out of a plane at 13,000ft earlier this month - was praised for the daring leap of faith.
Dr. Sentamu, who studied theology at Cambridge's Selwyn College in the 80s, wore a colourful crucifix round his neck during the ceremony which saw him receive the university's highest accolade.
The Ugandan-born political campaigner practised law in his homeland until he was forced to flee to the UK after being jailed.
The 58-year-old said after the charity jump: "It's important for citizens of this country to value those who risk their lives for the sake of this country, so I'm doing my part. I was praying like anybody's business up there. It was an amazing, amazing experience."
The prince also honoured five other people, including write Harold Pinter - who was unable to attend the ceremony due to ill health - Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and Professor Christopher Hogwood.
