Paul Burrell's break down

6 months ago 11th Apr 14:00

Britain's Princess Diana's former butler is reportedly close to "breaking point" after being condemned a liar at the inquest into her death.

Paul Burrell - who worked for the princess for 10 years until her death in 1997 - is facing a police perjury investigation after he was secretly filmed boasting to a friend he had lied during his testimony at the inquest into Diana's death at London's High Court.

While coroner Lord Justice Scott Baker was summing up the six months of evidence, he told the jury it was "blindingly obvious" Burrell had lied.

Now sources say the ex-servant is close to a nervous breakdown because of all the bad press surrounding him.

One insider told Britain's Daily Express newspaper: "Paul knows he's made a real mess of things and it's really getting on top of him. He never thought he'd go through anything like this again after he was put on trial when wrongly accused of stealing Diana's possessions a few years ago.

"But Paul actually feels a lot worse this time around, particularly as he knows he no longer has the support of the public.

"There are real worries among his friends that he's going to finally crack under the pressure of it all."
