Princess Diana's elephant feelings

2 months ago 23rd Sep 14:00

Britain's Princess Diana felt like an "elephant" when she was dancing.

In one of four previously unseen letters, the late princess tells her former nanny Mary Clarke she felt clumsy and ungraceful when she took to the floor.

Diana, who famously danced with John Travolta at the White House in 1985, wrote when she was just 17: "My love of life is dancing, things like tap, modern, ballet and jazz. Also I love singing, even though my voice sounds awful. And watching me dance is like watching an elephant, so no one does."

In another note, Diana speaks of her love for husband Prince Charles.

I do get annoyed at not being able to do my washing and general ironing!

Just two weeks before her wedding in July 1981, Diana revealed: "Not long to go now and about time too! Six months of being engaged is quite something and definitely to be avoided! All the family in complete overdrive and a lot of non speaks going on!"

Six months after her lavish wedding, Diana gushed: "I adore being married and having someone to devote my time (sic).

"I do get annoyed at not being able to do my washing and general ironing!"
